Mindy Smith Idolatry
Go to meetin’ suite

When Sugarhill records approached a then unknown Mindy Smith to record Dolly Parton’s song Jolene for “Just because I’m a woman- the songs of Dolly Parton” there was no intention to make it the single. Truly, Smiths obscurity was underscored by her fellow collaborators fame. Emmylou Harris, Allison Krauss, Mellissa Etheridge, not to mention Dolly herself, among others…Who the hell is Mindy Smith? Then they heard the song. No one asks who the hell Mindy is anymore. Never before has Jolene been so haunting; depths of fear and heartbreak are thinly veiled in her voice.
